MONEY MAGAZINE, March 2006, contains a very interesting article about mortgage rates, title and closing fees, entitled "Snow Job". This is definitely worth reading if you are a buyer, and will be enlightening reading for any property owner. A team of Money writers investigated the closing costs for a group of owners on a particular street in St. Louis Park, MN. They found significant disparities in cost and a number of unidentified financial/ownership connections between real estate agents, title companies and mortgage providers. They pose a set of questions to use as guidelines for avoiding this type of situation when making financing and closing arrangements.
